Why it Matters

Firearm tragedies are all too common within our Veteran population and are becoming all too common within civilian communities across the Nation as well.

Our Mission

To help confront and reduce firearm related tragedy, the Tenderfoot Trust has developed a means to save lives with a simple but novel firearm security method, known as Freeze the Keys.

The method combines widely available and freely distributed trigger lock cables with a custom designed container that freezes the trigger lock cable keys, thus safeguarding gun owners and their loved ones from ready access to the firearm. Studies have shown that just a 10-minute delay in suicidal ideation is the intervention delay needed to avert tragedy. By locking trigger mechanisms with a cable and freezing the cable lock keys, an effective suicide and gun tragedy barrier is created. The method also prevents the inadvertent firing of a gun due to carelessness and is an effective child safeguard.

The customizable container is inexpensive to manufacture, easy to ship, store and distribute, and can be co-branded with partner logos as well as embossed with suicide prevention resources and other support  resources.

An average of 4,500 veterans die by firearm suicide every year - about 12 deaths a day.“
